Nokia N8 review

by Nokia N8 on 14/06/2010

Nokia N8 faced some public exposure in London today. Edgadget guys had the chance to put their hands on and get to see what Nokia offers with Nokia N8, the highly anticipated 3.5 inches AMOLED (a small correction to Engadget) Symbian^3 device.
As noted, Nokia N8 is still unfinished product. There are bugs and crashes, which would be the reason why Nokia doesn’t really want much of a hands on the device yet.

By experience, Nokia N8 is a terrific video device with HDMI playback capability. A 30 seconds video takes only couple of seconds to process, and Nokia N8 is ready to shoot again.

Nokia presents 3 main advantages for Nokia N8: Ease of use, speed and familiarity. The last one sounds more like a “we don’t really have time to create something new”, but let’s pretend like that’s a ‘feature’. The screen is AMOLED, and highly sensitive compared to other Nokia devices. It also seems like Nokia cut down considerable amount of useless dialogs (i.e ‘Are you really really sure to do this?’).
Nokia N8There are 3 home screens with maximum 6 widgets each, which also do work in portrait mode. You can get easy access to Facebook, media player, emails etc.. from these Home Screens.

Multitasking also seems like working as described. You can close and app by good-old ‘X’ or put it to the background by pressing to the Home button. What that does to battery? Remains to be seen. But at least there is an accessible and intuitive task manager.

There is two way sync available for the emails. There is also a unified or separate Inbox options, based on your taste. SMS messages are threaded, but still can use QWERTY keyboard only in portrait mode (kind of turn-off).

Nokia N8 is expected to ship Q3 this year, and Vodafone UK will be the UK carrier already. Price is expected to be 370 euros, which should be quite convenient for what the device offers.

If you have time, you can read the loger version of the review on Engadget.
